A Writer's Road to Print

T/P/S – Writing Injuries, Making Tiny Progress, and Testing New Goals

From JP | 06.26.2025

This went up a couple hours later than usual. Not the best way to close out two months of consistency, I know, but better late than never. I’ll work to create a better internal infrastructure to make sure such delays are a rarity.

Thorns – What Do Real Wounds Look Like?

I’ve been having some minor anxieties concerning my ability to describe injuries and the aftermath of intense stress upon human bodies.

I’m presently writing a scene where characters are reacting to a severe wound, and I don’t really know what a realistic reaction to such a situation would look like. I’ll need to do some digging for information regarding what kind of resources could possibly give me the insight I’m looking for. I can see it becoming some pretty grisly research, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t morbidly fascinated at the prospect of it.

Petals – Just a Few Words

Micro word counts (50–100 words) are very helpful tools, especially when you find yourself swamped with so many things. It can often feel like you’re neglecting your creative work completely when you’re unable to contribute even a little bit throughout the day. At the same time, you know that your work deserves hours and hours, and it feels pointless to try and add a word or two, especially given the friction and effort required to switch in and out of the authorial headspace.

Setting micro word counts helps you mentally bypass that dilemma by giving you permission to contribute in a small way. All things considered, contributing a little bit is better than contributing nothing. Plus, doing so will help (at least slightly) relieve the stress generated from not having added to your creative work. That has been the case for me, and I hope that it can be the case for those reading this.

Seeds – Writing One Sentence at a Time

Having tried and seen the benefit of micro word counts, I want to experiment with less numerical measures of writing progress for this next week. I’ll challenge myself to frame my daily writing goals in sentences and paragraphs. I want to see whether I end up writing more or less, as well as whether my motivation to meet the goal is increased or lessened.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week. Talk again soon!

Wishing you countless bits of progress,

JP Violet

The Path Behind — A postscript

For my “Domain Audit” last week, I was only able to get through one domain. However, I will say that it was an incredibly valuable exercise. Having a space to flesh out the totality of my ideal vision for a particular aspect of my life takes off a lot of the unseen stress that comes with not knowing what to do next.

The next step for me would, naturally, be to complete the audit for the rest of my domains, but that will take quite a while, if the last one was any indication. Once I do that, however, the step after will simply be to determine what the most available, most immediate action I could take that would bring me closer to the vision I established.
